Huge congratulations to our College Captain, Kyrra Wilks, who won the local division of this year’s Lions Youth of the Year competition last night, hosted by the Lions Club of Helensvale. Competing against quality entrants from other Gold Coast schools, she faced a demanding combination of intensive interviewing, along with the delivery of one prepared and two impromptu speeches.
In her prepared speech, Kyrra spoke authentically about the concept of choice and how our decisions can make so much difference. She also faced the two impromptu topics with poise and intelligence, first of all responding to the question, ‘If you were mayor of the Gold Coast, what would be your main priority?’, followed by offering a thoughtful and impressive reply to the question, ‘Should the national anthem, Advance Australia Fair, have a verse in an indigenous language added, as happened in the Invictus Games? Why/Why not?’
Kyrra is to be congratulated on her efforts in preparation and for her impressive representation of the College at the competition.
Kyrra will now advance to the next level of the competition, the regional final, on Saturday 28 March and I’m sure all in our College community would like to join me in wishing her everything of the best going forward.
