Meet our Coordinator of Football
Andy Callaghan is serving as the Coordinator of Football and a Teacher of PE at Coomera Anglican College. With a robust educational background that includes a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science and Coaching, and a Postgraduate Masters in Teaching, Andy also holds a UEFA B Coaching Licence, ASCA Level 1 Strength & Conditioning, Certificate 3 & 4 in Fitness, and is certified in First Aid & CPR.
With diverse coaching backgrounds including tenures at NPL Victoria - Sunshine George Cross (Under 14’s - 18’s), Millwall FC Academy (Under 12’s - 16’s), and Arsenal Academy as a Technical Development Coach for Under 12’s - 16’s, Coach Callaghan is instrumental in the development of Coomera Anglican College’s Football Academy since 2024.
Andy's coaching philosophy is centred on developing a multifaceted skill set that includes both athletic prowess and personal growth. He is heading up the Football Academy to ensure the programme offers various sporting pathways tailored to individual aspirations, whether pursuing professional or semi-professional sports or enhancing skills in teamwork, discipline, and leadership. For those with professional ambitions, rigorous training and exposure to scouting opportunities are integral, while others may find avenues in coaching, sports management, or collegiate athletics. The ultimate goal is to foster a holistic developmental environment, encouraging students to achieve their highest potential both on and off the pitch, while also managing and supporting the educational growth of our students.Â
Having played for the Republic of Ireland at under 15, 16, 17, and 19 age group levels, and having participated in over 35 youth international games, including two European Championships, Andy has a wealth of playing experience. He played in the Millwall FC academy from the age of 8, signing full-time at 16 and a professional contract at 17. In the UK, he played semi-professionally in the Conference South and Southern Premier League, winning two championships, and in Australia, he competed in the senior Men’s QLD NPL and the Victorian NPL.
Inspired by Brazilian Ronaldo, and the College values,  Andy lives by the words "Imagine, Listen, Respect". His favourite quote forms the basis of his educational philosophy, "If you’re not making mistakes, then you’re not trying hard enough.", which underscores his commitment to coaching and developing the next generation of athletes.Â
