Our Primary Playground: Where Imagination Sets Sail
In the heart of the Coomera Anglican College campus lies a sanctuary of play and exploration – the new Primary Playground. Beyond a mere collection of play equipment, this space is a vibrant hub of creativity, curiosity, and adventure for our young students. It encapsulates the essence of childhood joy and discovery, inviting each of our primary students to explore their imagination freely.
Inspired by the coastal landscape of the Gold Coast, every aspect of the playground has been meticulously curated by the talented architects at Burling Brown. Their vision in collaboration with our founding Principal, Dr Mark Sly, our Business Manager, Mr David Dobbie and our College project team, was to seamlessly blend the playground with its natural environment, ensuring a harmonious relationship between nature and play. Through innovative design, intelligent spatial utilisation, and a commitment to safety, each element invites our students to explore, learn, and imagine.
Amidst the lush landscaping and grassed areas of the playground, students can engage in friendly matches on the basketball courts and futsal courts, honing their athletic skills and teamwork. The built-in trampolines, ingeniously integrated into the ground, provide thrilling bounces and endless laughter as students (and staff!) spring into the air with boundless energy.
a striking lighthouse, not only capturing the attention of our students but also intriguing our local community. Amidst the laughter and excitement of students at play, this towering structure serves as a symbol of guidance and hope. It reminds us all of the light that guides us through life’s challenges, both metaphorically and literally. The lighthouse has become a beloved focal point, igniting the imaginations of young minds and fostering a sense of wonder and awe.
The playground further boasts impressive climbing structures, including a gigantic “jellyfish” climbing structure, where students can test their agility and conquer new heights. These features, coupled with the thoughtful landscaping, create an environment where exploration knows no bounds.
The official opening of the redesigned and revitalised Primary Playground was a momentous occasion for Coomera Anglican College. Blessed by The Most Reverend Jeremy Greaves KCSJ on 12 March 2024, it marked the beginning of a new chapter in our College’s commitment to holistic education and student wellbeing. This project was made possible through the generous support of the Queensland State Government, via the Queensland Independent Schools Block Grant Authority, particularly for the stormwater elements. Additionally, the majority of funding was provided by Coomera Anglican College, demonstrating our dedication to providing exceptional facilities for our students.
As we look towards the future, the Primary Playground stands as a testament to our College’s values of creativity, exploration, and community. It is a place where students can thrive, discover, and grow, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the guiding light of imagination.
