ANZAC Day has always been a special day in the hearts and minds of the College community at Coomera Anglican College. To further commemorate this significant day in Australian history, students in the Primary Campus created ceramic poppies to feature in a garden for remembrance and reflection.

The Flanders Poppy has long been a part of our country’s remembrance. During the First World War red poppies were the first plants to spring up in the devastated battlefields of northern France and Belgium. 

Year 4 teacher/visual art specialist, Mrs Jenny Suhr, connected our ANZAC Day message with that of Year 3 teacher/author, Mrs Kerry Brown, as she planned and worked with students to create our Poppy Garden. Kerry’s picture book titled ‘Lest We Forget’ bridges the generation gap in a way for young children to relate to the older generation. This clever and touching picture book connects our youngest students to ANZAC Day sentiments, and the Poppy Garden is a visual and poignant reminder of the sacrifices made for our community and country.
